Pathology

Tachycardia (rate >100) originating from sino-atrial node

Aetiology

Can be normal as a result of increased sympathetic drive e.g. exercise or anxiety.

Signs

Regular fast pulse

Symptoms

Usually asymptomatic, fast, regular palpitations


Investigations

Bloods: FBC, TFTs
24hour ECG monitor: Detect arrhythmias 
24hour urine collection: if phaeochromocytoma suspected 

Treatment

Treat underlying cause appropriately

Prognosis

Complications are related to aetiology 
Depends on aetiology, usually good
